Accommodation

We will sleep in tents.

Participants must bring their own tent and their sleeping bag.

Beware that the days are warm but the night are cold even in the summer.

Language

Tibetans speak Tibetan, some also speak Chinese.

Chineses speak... Chinese.

No English is spoken at all.

You may find it beneficial to take phrasebooks to communicate (in particular a Chinese phrasebook to travel).

Showers

There are no showers. The only option is to wash in the river...

From past experience, people - including Westeners - do no smell bad even if they don't wash themselves (probably thanks to the wind, the healthy food and the fact there houses are not insulated...).

We will try to make a place where people can take a bucket of water to wash themselves.

Toilets

There are no toilets. People go to the fields... (they have a technique to "sit" and hide themselves with their clothes).

We will build "toilets", which will be a hole in the ground and a shelter to hide oneself for privacy.

Food

Tibetan food consist mainly barley, meat and dairy products. Vegetables are scarce in the high altitude, and must be brought from the city. Tsampa (barley flour ) is consumed daily.
Those who require a special diet, or those who would like another type of food, must bring their own food.
